Do you ever think about guest posting but worry you\u2019re not ready?<\/span><\/p>\n

You probably already know that guest posting is one of the most effective ways to build relationships in the blogging world, get writing credits, and grow your audience …\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

… yet you might worry that no-one will take your posts, because you\u2019re too new to blogging, your own audience is too small, or you\u2019re not (yet) a great writer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe you\u2019ve heard bloggers say that they get dozens, even hundreds, of guest post pitches each week, and you feel certain that the numbers will be against you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s true that a lot <\/i>of people are pitching guest posts: as Editor of DailyBlogTips (Sept 2013 – July2014), I got a huge number of pitches.<\/span><\/p>\n

The truth is, though, that many of these pitches are just awful.<\/i><\/b> And you could easily do much, much better.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s an all-too-representative sample:<\/span><\/p>\n

Hi\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

I am [name removed]. I wanted to\u00a0guest\u00a0blog on\u00a0your\u00a0esteemed\u00a0site under SEO section. Here by i \u00a0am sending doc conatining article named ”\u00a0<\/i>Secrets to improve your page rank”\u00a0<\/i><\/b>.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Kindly do the needful action<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks & Regards<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Dear Webmaster,<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

I have come across your website and found it very informative.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

I am currently the webmaster of (a specialist Email Marketing Company). We are interested in writing a\u00a0\u201c<\/i>guest\u00a0blog<\/i><\/b>\u201d\u00a0for your website.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, in that second example, they really did write \u201c(a specialist Email Marketing Company)\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Drowning in emails, I soon started deleting pitches straight away if the would-be guest poster didn\u2019t even bother using my name.<\/span><\/p>\n

I sent brief \u201cno thanks\u201d emails to anyone who pitched something clearly off-topic, or whose email suggested they had a poor grasp of spelling and grammar.<\/span><\/p>\n

(Yes, that might seem a little elitist, but when I\u2019m offered one nearly-perfect guest post and one that\u2019s going to take hours of my time, it\u2019s an easy choice to make.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Even the slightly better pitches made some annoying mistakes, like:<\/span><\/p>\n
